closing ceremony of “Sashakti” program orgainised by delhi police.

East District, Delhi Police organised the closing ceremony of “Sashakti” program at Sports Ground, East Vinod Nagar, Delhi, today. Sh. Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police was the Chief Guest. The six week training program was organised from 15.11.2018 to 27.12.2018, in which 9868 girl students of six (06) Govt. schools of east Delhi were imparted training in self-defence. Besides, 80 working women from Vasundhara area were also imparted self-defence training in coordination with NGO “Swayampath”, while 250 boys were also included in the training module for Gender Sensitization talks.

Girls are targeted by many criminals as they are considered soft & fragile and are not predicted to fight back. Many girls panic in the event of attack, making themselves vulnerable targets. The goal of this program was to reinforce a sense of confidence in girls and to teach them that a girl’s best weapon is her mind. Some ways in which a girl can defend herself seem strange, but are actually very intelligent. In self-defence classes girls have been taught to remain calm and use physical tactics in serious situations.

While addressing the gathering Sh. Pawan Duggal, Cyber Law Expert stressed upon need to remain cyber aware, while using modern gadgets and the internet. He cautioned the children to use the technology wisely as every activity on cyber space leaves electronic footprints and any error can make us potential victim or offender. Sh. Devendra Gupta of “Laadli Foundation” presented a small lecture on gender sensitization and alerted the students that 95% of the crimes against women or children are committed by acquaintances, so girls/children must always remain cognizant even in friendly atmosphere. He advised the girls to confide in their mothers and share all their activities and new friends with mothers, who happen to be the best friend of every child.

Speaking on the occasion the CP, Delhi complemented Jt.CP/Eastern Range, DCP/East District and Principals of participating schools for organising this program on such a grand scale and commended the participants for attending the program. He reiterated that “Sashakti” is Delhi Police’s most important initiative in women empowerment, as physical fitness & self-defence knowledge give a boost to your confidence. He also advised the participants to remain alert while using technology, as our dependence on modern gadgets will keep on increasing. He counselled the children to suspect every stranger in cyber space and monitor their own activities too. CP, Delhi also urged the Principals of schools to make “Sashakti” & “Cyber Awareness” an integral part of their curriculum.

CP/Delhi also distributed Sashakti Kits (containing Cyber awareness CD & Cap) and certificates to the participants; and presented mementos to the Principals. A short film on Sashakti scheme was shown to the participants who presented a demo of techniques learnt during the training program.
